Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery

Nurses and midwives are among the most valued members of any community. This double degree will give you specialist knowledge and a broad range of nursing skills in communication, research, clinical reasoning, client care and judgement, making you highly employable in any practice setting, especially in rural and remote areas where being multi-skilled can save lives.

This course prepares students to graduate both as a nurse and as a midwife, enabling them to work in a variety of settings to provide a valued service in communities in the provision of health care, the promotion of health and well-being and maternity care. Our graduate nurses and midwives are highly sought after thanks to our teaching quality and links to world-class medical researchers and major teaching hospitals. Graduates of the course will be eligible to register as a nurse and as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

The course consists of eight semesters, each with four units (or equivalent). Clinical midwifery and nursing experience make up a major component of the course and require placement in a variety of practice settings. Travel to clinical placements will be required.
You may also get the chance to study and undertake clinical placements in Sweden or the UK under our student exchange programs.

Minimum entrance requirements:
VCE prerequisites - Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of General Mathematics or Maths: Mathematical Methods or Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics; and a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.
International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites - A score of at least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL and a score of at least 3 in any mathematics subject.
