The extra year following the completion of your bachelor's degree will show that you have the skills, knowledge, commitment and confidence to be a leader among your peers. This degree produces early career nurses with the research, critical thinking and decision making skills to influence future clinical practice, which benefits the needs of individuals and the community.
The course consists of a supervised research project that provides a great opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of an area of interest and prepare for rapid career advancement as an advanced practitioner or for further study as a researcher.
Recent research projects include investigating how nurses manage grief and receive support when their patients are dying, the effect of education on recognition and care of the deteriorating patient and examining information which accompanies residents transferred from aged care facilities to the emergency department.
You could use the evidence-gathering skills you'll develop to investigate just about any topic related to your nursing degree, such as health assessment in clinical practice, legal issues that affect nurses, indigenous health or mental health.
The course is an extension to our undergraduate nursing courses.
