This four-year degree is designed for students who wish to study psychology intensively with a view to pursuing a career as a research or professional psychologist. Students study nine core psychology units accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, seven psychology elective units, which allow them to pursue specific interests in psychology, and eight complementary non-psychology units. Students who do not meet the entry requirements for the honours program qualify for the Bachelor of Psychological Science provided they have successfully completed the first three years of the program. These students will be eligible to apply for entry to other fourth year psychology programs at Monash or other universities. This degree is designed for students who wish to study psychology intensively with a view to pursuing a career as a research or professional psychologist. In the first three years of the course, students study the core areas of the scientific discipline of psychology, as well as being able to pursue their individual interests in a range of areas relating to the application of psychology. Students are also introduced to other disciplines which complement the study of psychology. In the fourth year, students undertake the honours program in psychology.
VCE prerequisites Units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English. International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites •A score of at least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL.
Graduates may apply to undertake the further study and training required to practice as a psychologist. Psychologists are employed in a wide range of fields such as career counselling, clinical neuropsychology, clinical and child counselling, educational, forensics, health, organisational and sports psychology, as well as in teaching and research. Graduates may also apply their understanding of psychological principles, their generic writing and analytical skills, and their competency with statistics to a variety of employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors.
