If you’re interested in becoming a qualified counsellor or psychotherapist, this one year Counselling Studies and Skills University Diploma is the first step towards becoming an accredited counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Gain entry into counselling

This course is also an ideal starting point if you are interested in learning more about counselling for work or personal use and is the perfect entry level to give you a good understanding and knowledge base on this subject area. This course will not give you a licence to practice but may help you decide if counselling is a career you wish to pursue.

What you will learn

You will learn about the three major theoretical models of counselling in Theories of Therapeutic Intervention, the foundations of counselling and communication skills in Counselling Skills as well as specific counselling approaches in Counselling in Context.

Counselling offers a range of valuable skills that can be used across numerous job roles both within health and social care to those working in a role where counselling knowledge would be a real aid. It is particularly useful for nurses, community and youth workers, police officers or teachers to anyone dealing with vulnerable or distressed people.

Whatever your situation, this is an excellent foundation and a recognised qualification which allows you to move on to further study and broaden your career. You may be surprised to learn that counselling can be studied online. But through our use of specially designed, interactive teaching methods you’ll participate in virtual classrooms and online discussion forums where you can discuss and debate relevant topics with fellow online students.

Membership savings with the Stress Management Society

As a student on this programme, you will be eligible for discounted membership rates with the Stress Management Society, the UK’s leading authority on workplace stress.
