Master of Nursing

Nursing at Avondale offers you the opportunity to be a student in a course well recognised for its strong clinical focus. Avondale is linked with the Sydney Adventist Hospital (affectionally known as The San), which is one of the largest and most comprehensive private hospitals in Australia.
 
Students are required to undertake 120 hours of experience during their study, which can be facilitated at a range of different hospitals and clinical centres in Australia. Whilst the course is predominantly distance education, additional non-mandatory on-campus sessions can be organised to support learning needs on the Avondale campus itself: situated on the North Shore of Sydney.
 
The faculty of Arts, Nursing and Theology offers a Master of Nursing (by coursework) with optional exit points of Graduate Certificate in Nursing and Graduate Diploma in Nursing. Students are given the option to develop nursing specialist qualifications in Clinical Nursing, Clinical Teaching or Leadership and Management.
 
These areas of study are designed to extend and deepen knowledge, skills and appreciation of advanced practice through in-depth study of nursing research and innovative evidence-based perspectives of practice, clinical teaching, leadership and management approaches, health promotion, lifestyle disease, counselling, holistic assessment, advanced therapeutic interventions and evaluation within complex health care environments.
 
The ability to function both autonomously and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team is an essential element in the course. Further, postgraduate students will also be expected to demonstrate accountability for safe practice from legal, ethical and professional perspectives.
