The IUHS School of Medicine is an accredited allopathic medical school founded in 1998. IUHS graduates may sit licensing exams in many countries including the USA, Canada, Australia, Mexico, UAE, India, and South Africa just to name a few. The 4-year MD program is offered in English only with an average tuition of only 40% of most other medical universities.
IUHS combines the best practices of medical education with technology to create a collaborative and supportive learning environment no matter where you are located in the world. The University's core mission is to address the global shortage, inequitable distribution, and demographic representation of healthcare professionals.
We look forward to welcoming you to our University, which will provide you with a rewarding academic experience.
Innovation is at the heart of the University with an Active Learning Pedagogy whereby our students use a virtual classroom including interactive lectures, recorded lectures, problem-based case learning, study groups, a competency-based assessment model with regular exams for self-assessment, mentorship program as well as world-class North American professors.
Students use Blackboard Collaborate, Lecturio & DxR Clinician a virtual patient simulator education system just to name a few of the learning technologies.
Years 1 & 2
The pre-clinical program is divided into 11 blocks. The first is 12 weeks & the remainder 8 weeks duration, consisting of instruction in all the basic sciences, USMLE Step 1 preparation, and introduction to clinical medicine.
The curriculum is set up as a case-based organ-systems approach to medicine that establishes the connections between knowledge and practice immediately. The core lectures are supported by a series of Active Learning activities, which puts the student at the center of the learning experience.
This curriculum provides a thorough foundation and understanding of the fundamentals of medical science and the application of these principles to pathology and ultimately patient care.
Years 3 & 4
After pre-clinical studies, students spend 80 weeks in clinical facilities. Students learn clinical skills by working under close supervision with licensed MDs.
Clinical students become skilled at patient interviewing techniques, history taking, physical examination, and medical procedures.
Clinical rotations are divided into 48 weeks of core rotations learning all necessary skills followed by 32 weeks of elective rotations in disciplines that interest them.
Students may complete their rotations at IUHS-affiliated hospitals or leverage relationships you may already have in your local community hospitals. IUHS has affiliations with Australian hospitals.
Hospital-imposed fees are the direct responsibility of the student and can range from $0 to $400 or more per week depending upon the nature of the clinical site.
Accreditation & Licensing
IUHS is accredited by the government of the Federation of St. Christopher & Nevis (St. Kitts), is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools & listed with FAIMER.
