The NT government will address a shortage of medical, nursing and health staff for the Territory through a new recruitment campaign.

Targeting healthcare professionals in Australia and overseas, the program will be funded by a previously announced $12.8 million workforce boost package.

"Having greater access to primary healthcare professionals will help relieve some of the pressures Territory hospitals and emergency departments have been experiencing," Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said on Wednesday.

Ms Fyles also announced that 250 junior doctors would begin at public hospitals across the territory this year, with just under 30 per cent of them sent to Alice Springs.

Data published on NT Health's website shows that since alcohol bans were lifted in July 2022, alcohol-related admissions to the emergency department of Alice Springs Hospital has increased by 150 per cent.

"We know that we need an injection into central Australia so that we can deliver the services that are required," Ms Fyles told reporters.
