Improving the health of people in rural, regional and remote Australia will come under the microscope of leading national and international experts in the field at the 15th National Rural Health Conference to be held in Hobart next year.

The National Rural Health Conference program will integrate the social, economic, and environmental determinants of health throughout the plenary and concurrent sessions – all of which are essential foundations for a healthy society and the future of better health for people living in rural, regional and remote Australia. The Conference will also focus on the current state of the health workforce and access to health services in rural, regional and remote Australia – showcasing innovative solutions to address these complex issues.

‘Better Together!’ is the theme of the 15th Conference and the program highlights how we can work better together to improve the health and wellbeing of the 7 million people that live and work in rural, regional and remote Australia.

This important four-day event provides learning and networking opportunities to public and private healthcare professionals, health consumer advocates and carers, students and researchers, and interested people from health-related sectors such as education, transport and housing in rural, regional and remote areas.

Keynote speakers include:

• Sir Harry Burns, Professor of Global Public Health at the University of Strathclyde, Scotland;
• Isabelle Skinner, CEO of the International Council of Nurses;
• James Buchan, World Health Organization Collaborating Centre;
• Paul Worley, National Rural Health Commissioner;
• Kelvin Kong, Australia’s first Aboriginal Fellow of the Australasian College of Surgeons;
• Saul Eslake, economist and Vice Chancellor’s Fellow, University of Tasmania;
• Anne Cahill-Lambert, health consumer advocate; and
• Lorimer Moseley, Professor of Neuroscience, University of SA.
