The call for complementary and natural medicine to work in tandem with mainstream medicine has been growing for some time and a big breakthrough has finally come for the remedial massage sector.  Australians have answered the call of medical practitioners to lead more active lives, which includes further need for treatment of physical injury.  The Australasian College of Natural Therapies (ACNT) has announced a new Diploma of Remedial Massage (HLT52015) to meet this demand.

The new qualification puts graduates in a better position for employability through industry recognition.  The diploma is now recognised by health funds such as Medibank, which allows clients to access rebates for remedial massage services. This incentivises clients to seek out massage treatment for injury without feeling pain in the hip pocket. It also provides peace of mind in the knowledge that the service provided by a graduate is government and industry accredited.

This is a great boost for anyone looking to enter the remedial massage industry or improve their existing complimentary medicine skill set. The change combines both the existing Certificate IV in Remedial Massage Therapy (HLT40312) and the Diploma of Remedial Massage (HLT50307). The new 12-month diploma now includes both foundational and advanced theory with the practical skills to back it up.

A considerable 200 hours of supervised clinical experience on real clients is available to students on-campus.  All trainers and supervisors are qualified practitioners and industry experts with a wealth of knowledge to share. This means better quality outcomes as students will get remedial massage practice in a public-facing wellbeing clinic. This hands-on experience prior to graduation aims to improve the confidence and skill of graduates, and make finding fulfilling employment much easier.

It’s a major lift for the wider complimentary and natural health sector and will improve services to Australians.  It validates remedial massage as a much needed part of treatment and recovery from injury and paves the way for remedial massage therapists to enjoy successful careers.
