Develop a consistent but flexible routine
Schedule short blocks of work time - 15 minutes for younger children - followed by a 10 minute break
Help older children "chunk their learning" to help alleviate the pressure of a full day of study
Schedule a regular video phone call for a grandparent, relative or friend and a child to read a book to each another or practise times tables
Create a roster with other parents to create learning experiences that can be shared with a group
Younger children can learn through real-life activities like cooking, songs, puzzles, and board games
Closed captions on the television can help children identify common words
There are numerous online art and literature activities such as Operation Story Time, where children's authors read their stories aloud
Parents working from home can set a timer on a phone that's visible for children showing when the adult's work session ends to avoid interruptions
Two-to-three hours of learning each day will usually be plenty for students, says Education Queensland. Guidelines for the amount of time students of different year levels should spend on subjects is available at qed.qld.gov.au/about-us/news-and-media/novel-coronavirus.
