A revamped emergency department at Tasmania's North West Regional Hospital will take its first patients on Monday morning.

The first patients at the newly-upgraded emergency department of Tasmania's North West Regional Hospital will come through the door on Monday morning.

The $6.9 million renovation has tripled the size of the department and means the hospital has the highest level of emergency medicine facilities in the region.

"People requiring emergency care at the hospital will now be treated in a state-of-the-art facility," Liberal Braddon MP Adam Brooks said.

When the Burnie hospital was built in 1995, the ED was intended to accommodate 12,000 presentations each year.

But in the 2013-14 financial year it had seen nearly double that.

The facility will take its first patients from 9am on Monday morning, when staff will help coordinate a move of patients and equipment into the new area.

It includes eight extra general treatment cubicles, two paediatric cubicles and special treatment rooms for mental health conditions and isolation.

There is also a central clinical staff station, a decontamination unit, four-bed discharge unit and a new ED entrance.
