For mum of three Valerie Wade whose husband and daughter have epilepsy, as well as another child with learning difficulties on top of the usual childhood illnesses and issues, it’s exactly what she’s been waiting for.

“It seems so logical, yet there’s been nothing around that really understand the needs of families,” Mrs Wade said.

“We’ve moved states three times since having children and each time we’ve had to find a new doctor and then try to remember each child’s medical history and it’s been very difficult,” she said.

“Simply being able to keep track and share vital health records and observations will be incredibly beneficial.”

“While being able to video epileptic seizures and keep them on record to show your specialist also is invaluable, particularly for those who have sporadic seizures.”

“Neurologists always want to know what happens, how long a seizure goes for, and asks you to describe it, this takes the pressure off as you’re no longer relying on your memory which makes it easier for a doctor to define it and work out the best way to treat it.”

“Kindom also addresses one of the biggest challenges we faced at the start of every school year and that’s having to go from teacher to teacher explaining each child’s condition and treatment. To be able to simply hand them a printed health summary is amazing.”

Kindom’s founder and mum of six Cath Resnick knows all too well the challenges families face which is why she set about developing this platform.

“When you have a massive paper trail for each child covering their health, development, education and social life it’s guaranteed something is going to slip through the cracks.” Ms Resnick said.

Ms Resnick said Kindom helped families manage their child’s health care by:
  • Shared care; Enables easy access and sharing of records between health professionals looking after your child– such as doctors, specialists or physiotherapists resulting in better health outcomes, as everyone’s on the same page.
  • Storage of important data; Whether it’s medical records, blood tests, or even school reports, it’s all easily accessible from the one place.
  • Health Summary; Kindom automatically creates health and developmental summaries for each of your kin, which you can be easily printed or emailed to give to clinicians, schools and carers.
  • In-built journal; Make your own observations about your child’s developments or key milestones, it’s then all on record so you’ll never forget.
  • Schedules and reminders; Based on information you have gathered and evidence-based recommendations, Kindom helps you keep track of your child’s progress, reassuring you when it’s going well and link you to relevant resources if you have concerns.
  • Shared calendar; helps your whole family keep track of appointments, check-ups and key events.

Ms Wade said the app will be invaluable.

“It’s not just for families with special needs, I can see all families being able to use this to help them manage day to day life, not just for their children but for themselves and their elderly parents.”

Ms Resnick said Kindom helps families take control of their own care with all the relevant information in one easy place to access and share.
