A Perth company wants to change the way people book physiotherapists, occupational therapists and support workers with an Uber-inspired healthcare app.

Known as Bruno™ Health, a beta version of the app was launched in January promising to slash costs for patients while paying health professionals more.

Physiotherapist and Bruno™ Health founder Zachary Nielsen said the app aims to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for everyone.

“We felt like the cost of allied health services, or any service in the home, was way too much,” he said.

“And we realised from being immersed in the profession that the wages being paid to the people actually doing the groundwork didn’t represent the cost of that service.

“Being part of that industry and working in disability agencies, I saw that the margin being taken as a service fee on top of the wage was used very ineffectively.”

Mr Nielsen began by setting up a traditional business offering physiotherapy, occupational therapy and support work, which capped rates for services, paid workers more and gave patients more control.

As the team set about automating the administration of the business, their ideas snowballed into the app.

“Those principles have given us the ability to nearly halve the cost of health services and pay health professionals nearly twice as much,” Mr Nielsen said.

Mr Nielsen said more than 30 health professionals and 140 potential patients had already signed up to Bruno™ Health, despite no formal marketing of the early-stage app.

Bruno™ Health currently offers a directory of local health professionals, a messaging service and a payment platform, with plans to implement online bookings and a ratings system.

The app is available for iOS and Android devices from the App Store and Google Play.
