As the COVID-19 pandemic has evolved, the Australian Injectable Drugs Handbook (AIDH), which is developed by expert hospital pharmacists, has remained an essential companion for Australia’s nurses.

  • In May 2020 amid the first wave of community transmission in Australia, a new section of the leading ‘yellow book’ listed how key medicines and important medical equipment could be managed or prioritised as part of Australia’s national response.

  • Two months later, remdesivir was the first medicine provisionally approved for the treatment of COVID-19 and the remdesivir monograph was released as an AIDH update 12 days later.

  • In September 2021 sotrovimab was granted provisional TGA approval to mitigate severe harm from symptoms of COVID-19 infection requiring hospitalisation. Again, within a fortnight, SHPA published streamlined access to information on the safe administration of sotrovimab for COVID-19.

Support for COVID care is just another reason AIDH is Australia’s indispensable frontline nursing resource to manage risk and ensure quality care in every ward of every hospital in Australia.

As there are significant changes to many of the 500+ monographs in the new edition – including information on 50 new medicines, plus new sections on smart pumps, flushing of IV lines and devices, management of extravasation and CoPAT – all nurses need to have AIDH8 within reach at all times, in medicine preparation rooms, in theatres and at nursing stations.
